IndoNEWSian.com — A unique and heartwarming event titled #AkuKoncomu Cup 2025 successfully took place at Rolag Café, Kayun, Surabaya, on Sunday (June 8, 2025). This inaugural tournament also marked the official launch of the AkuKoncomu Social Community, initiated by Azhar Kahfi, a member of Surabaya City Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) from Gerindra Party, in collaboration with the Indonesian Domino Sports Association (PORDI) East Java.
From Bondowoso to Bekasi, All Gather for Friendship
The tournament drew an impressive 256 participants from cities and regencies across East Java, with special representatives from Bekasi. Bondowoso sent the largest contingent, fielding 38 pairs, while Surabaya contributed 25 pairs.
With a total prize pool of IDR 35 million (approx. USD 2,200), Kahfi emphasized that the core value of this tournament lies not in the prizes, but in building connections.
“It’s not about the prizes. It’s about friendship, networking, and creating a positive atmosphere,” Kahfi stressed.
Domino: A Positive, Non-Gambling Alternative for Social Engagement
According to Kahfi, domino is more than just a casual coffee-shop game. It can also be a tool for strategic thinking and social bonding.
“Domino trains strategy, empathy, and reading situations. There is no gambling here. It’s all about friendship and positive vibes. No Gambling, Yes to Achievement!” Kahfi declared to enthusiastic applause.
He also hopes this event will become an annual tradition that promotes healthy, community-driven activities.
Strong Support from PORDI East Java
Muhammad Alyas, Chairman of PORDI East Java, expressed his appreciation for the AkuKoncomu movement.
“Domino is a rare sport that naturally connects people. It fosters a sense of community in a fun and casual way,” Alyas said.
Alyas also encouraged establishing AkuKoncomu community centers at the sub-district and neighborhood levels.
“Imagine having AkuKoncomu hubs in all 31 sub-districts and 163 neighborhoods in Surabaya. We would create a powerful social network,” he added.
Collaboration with PORDI and Police Representatives
The tournament’s opening ceremony was led by Azhar Kahfi, alongside the PORDI East Java Chairman, the PORDI Surabaya and Gresik Chairmen, and representatives from the East Java Regional Police, who also competed in the tournament.
Connecting Communities Through Domino’s Core Values
More than just a competition, this tournament embodied the core philosophy of friendship: understanding, supporting, and giving space for others to succeed.
“I hope AkuKoncomu will continue to grow and become a driving force for social connectivity across East Java,” Kahfi concluded.
