IndoNEWSian.com – The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs is currently examining a contentious suggestion that would make having a vasectomy necessary for individuals to qualify for government assistance and scholarships.

The purpose of this initiative is to reduce fertility rates within lower-income households and promote a more equitable allocation of support services by providing an incentive of 500,000 rupiah for males agreeing to undergo the relevant procedures.

The Social Affairs Minister, Saifullah Yusuf, recognized the proposal’s intention but stated that additional time is required to examine how it can be implemented effectively.

The proposal has faced significant backlash from Indonesia’s National Commission on Human Rights, which deemed it discriminatory and potentially infringing upon human rights.

The Indonesian Ulema Council likewise denounced the suggestion, stating that vasectomies are considered haram unless they are medically necessary and can be reversed, as current techniques do not completely fulfill these criteria. (@)
