As reported by Variety, “The Spirit of Kantil” is a sensuous drama heavily grounded in Javanese mystical customs, featuring

acting as both the writer and producer.

, whose illustrious career stretches across multiple decades with notable creations like “Opera Jawa” (2006), “Serambi” (2005), and more recently “Samsara” (2024), has managed to push Southeast Asian cinema into new frontiers.
According to the source, the movie delves into the intricate interplay between aesthetics, authority, and heritage in 1950s Indonesia via a love quadrangle marked by allure and spirituality. It features Adista, a affluent lady proficient in the arcane practice of charm using kantil blossoms; Citresa, an exceptionally lovely bedoyo performer hailing from under a kantil sapling; along with her spouse, Kripala—a striving musician grappling with his craft.
