Spurs top Thunder, eight-game winning streak

The Oklahoma City Thunder, last season’s NBA champions, started this season with a dominant 24-1 record in their first 25 games, fueling expectations of a potential two-peat and even surpassing the Golden State Warriors’ all-time single-season win percentage (0.890, 73-9) from the 2015-2016 season. However, the Thunder later slumped to a 2-4 record, dropping their overall mark to 26-5 (0.839). Three of those losses came against the San Antonio Spurs, who have emerged as the Thunder’s clear nemesis.

The Spurs defeated the Thunder 117-102 in a regular-season away game held on the 26th (Korean time) at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States. This marked their third straight victory over the Thunder this season.

The Spurs showcased balanced contributions, with De’Aaron Fox leading the offense with 29 points. Victor Wembanyama, a 224 cm center, recorded 19 points and 11 rebounds in just 26 minutes. Steph Castle (19 points, 7 assists) and Harrison Barnes (15 points) also contributed. The Thunder struggled, shooting only 38.9% from the field.

The Spurs extended their winning streak to eight games, solidifying their position at 2nd place in the Western Conference (23-7). The gap with the leading Thunder narrowed to 2.5 games, intensifying the race for the top spot.
